Mechanical Engineer
About the role
The Mechanical Engineer at Salas O’Brien works in a fast-paced multi-discipline team environment. Responsibilities include developing mechanical system designs, performing load and energy calculations, conducting existing building surveys, and preparing detailed design documents.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical system designs based on scope of work and/or client requirements.
- Provide engineering design, evaluation, and planning of mechanical systems for a variety of building types.
- Perform load and energy calculations with software such as IES and similar programs.
- Conduct existing building surveys and document existing mechanical systems.
- Develop system design and selection of equipment based on engineering calculation and analysis.
- Develop project specifications.
- Prepare detailed design documents, reports, and studies.
- Complete code compliance research.
- Cook up coordination work with other disciplines.
- Provide construction administration services, including site visits during construction, submittal review, and RFI responses.
- QA/QC of design work.
- Oversee and provide guidance to junior engineers and designers.
- Lead project teams and serve as a primary contact for clients.
- Aid in the procurement of new work; including the development of client relations and participation in project interviews.
Qualifications and Experience
- You have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- You possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- You have a minimum of 4 - 8 years of design experience in HVAC systems.
- You have knowledge and understanding of codes, standards, and design guidelines.
- You have the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- You have an excellent work ethic and attitude.
- You have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- You have strong organizational skills, the ability to plan, balance, and prioritize work.
- You have the ability to provide clear direction to junior team members in a collaborative mentorship.
- You are proficient in Revit and Microsoft Office.
- You have the ability to travel.
Location
The role is located in Portland, ME.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected base salary range for this role is $85,000 - $100,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location. This role is also eligible for performance-based bonuses and a comprehensive U.S. based benefits package, including:
