Mechanical Engineer
About the role
The Mechanical Engineer will support the design of mechanical systems for mission-critical facilities, including data centers, advanced manufacturing plants, and other high-availability environments. Working alongside a Senior Mechanical Engineer on each project, this mid-level role is responsible for producing detailed mechanical designs, performing analyses, and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver infrastructure that meets demanding uptime and efficiency requirements in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical designs for mission-critical projects under the direction of a Senior Mechanical Engineer, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, best practices and client requirements.
- Perform detailed calculations and analyses such as load calcs, pipe pressure drop, duct pressure drop, PUE, WUE etc.
- Produce mechanical design deliverables including drawings and specifications.
- Delegate tasks to junior engineers, oversee their progress, and provide technical guidance, mentorship and training.
- Coverage with other disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, electrical, plumbing, and controls to support integrated design.
- Support construction administration activities, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, and field observations.
- Contribute to client meetings and presentations, support the senior engineer in communicating technical solutions.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in the mission-critical industry.
Requirements
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET institution required.
- 3-7 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering; mission-critical, data center, or high-tech manufacturing project experience preferred.
- EIT required; PE License preferred or actively pursuing.
- Proficiency in mechanical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, or similar tools).
- Proficiency or familiarity with CFD modeling software such as Ansys Fluent, Cadence Reality or similar is a plus.
- Experience with building codes and standards (ICC series, ASHRAE, NFPA etc.) and local/regional codes and regulations.
- Experience working in a design-build or integrated project delivery (IPD) environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of construction workflows and their relationship to design.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
