About the role
A Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design of a vessel’s propulsion and auxiliary systems, piping, and HVAC.
Responsibilities
- Actively interfaces with other engineering disciplines and production departments
- Prepares purchase technical specifications
- Directs designers in the development of functional drawings
- Directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems for use onboard vessels
- Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
- Guides personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of testing methods and procedures
- Ensures that products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications
- May design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software
- Other duties assigned or requested by Management
Qualifications
- 2+ years’ working experience with Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR 10+ years relevant industry experience
- Shipyard experience is preferred
Skills
- Knowledge of piping, heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC), insulation, machinery ventilation, sewage systems, and sea water systems concepts
- Ability to use computer-assisted engineering software to design the products or systems listed above
- Ability to support all production and testing activities
- Familiarity with CFR, ABS, NVIC, and USCG rules and regulations for mechanical and piping systems along with other applicable regulations
- Basic computer skills using Microsoft applications (i.e., MS Excel, MS Word)
- Self-motivated with excellent communication and leadership skills
