Mechanical Engineer

About the role

A Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design of a vessel’s propulsion and auxiliary systems, piping, and HVAC.

Responsibilities

• Actively interfaces with other engineering disciplines and production departments
• Prepares purchase technical specifications
• Directs designers in the development of functional drawings
• Directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems for use onboard vessels
• Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
• Guides personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of testing methods and procedures
• Ensures that products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications
• May design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software
• Other duties assigned or requested by Management

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ working experience with Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR 10+ years relevant industry experience
• Shipyard experience is preferred

Skills

• Knowledge of piping, heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC), insulation, machinery ventilation, sewage systems, and sea water systems concepts
• Ability to use computer-assisted engineering software to design the products or systems listed above
• Ability to support all production and testing activities
• Familiarity with CFR, ABS, NVIC, and USCG rules and regulations for mechanical and piping systems along with other applicable regulations
• Basic computer skills using Microsoft applications (i.e., MS Excel, MS Word)
• Self-motivated with excellent communication and leadership skills
