Mechanical Engineer
About the role
The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is seeking a Full-Time Mechanical Engineer-GS-0830-12 to work at Hurlburt Field, Florida. The selected individual will serve as a professional mechanical engineer, focusing on design, project programming, and construction management/quality assurance monitoring for military installations.
Responsibilities
- Performs planning and design work for substantial multi-phase new construction, renovations, and improvement projects for real property facilities, including utility systems, using a professional knowledge of mechanical engineering.
- Manages projects for new construction, renovations, and improvements to real property facilities and maintains surveillance over construction contractors using a professional knowledge of mechanical engineering and knowledge of other engineering disciplines to ensure overall compliance with contracted specifications, schedules, etc.
- Plans, programs, budgets, and executes required projects in support of assigned programs.
- Uses cost estimating tools to produce government estimates, program projects, and compete for funding in Air Force corporate processes.
- Serves as the Activity Management Plan (AMP) Manager responsible for developing short- and long-range facilities and infrastructure priorities and requirements.
- Provides consulting services and project coordination, coordinating projects with other engineers in a variety of disciplines, architects, and planners as well as contracting officers, tenant organization representatives, and construction agents such as from private contracting companies, Army Corps of Engineers, AF Civil Engineer Center, and AF Installation Mission Support Center.
- Collects data and evaluates factors which affect the application of concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to observe, examine, measure, analyze, map, and describe physical and technical features and phenomena.
- Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is a Mechanical Engineer with demonstrated experience in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facility mechanical systems. Candidates should possess expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, with the ability to develop engineering solutions, review technical designs, manage construction projects, ensure compliance with applicable federal, Department of War, and industry codes and standards. Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills are highly desirable.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position. The selectee will have up to 24 months to meet the applicable mandatory experience, education, and training requirements.
Skills
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Pay
The salary range is $89,508-$116,362. Moving expenses and relocation/recruitment incentives may be paid.
Schedule
The work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military and commercial aircraft.
