About the role

This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on researching, planning, analyzing, designing, and developing complex mechanical products and systems, including ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and related devices. You will perform technical analysis, testing, and evaluation of moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and advanced CAD tools. The position requires interpreting and validating design specifications, drawings, models, and test results to ensure compliance with engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements. You will also prepare and update technical documentation and may contribute to and deliver technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering and scientific principles to develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Research, plan, analyze, design, and develop mechanical products such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and other mechanical devices.
  • Conceptualize, create, and analyze mechanical designs to ensure projects meet technical, cost, quality, and performance requirements.
  • Perform technical analysis, calculations, testing, and evaluation of results using specialized equipment, custom computer programs, models, and simulations.
  • Analyze and interpret design specifications, engineering drawings, documents, models, and test results to ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
  • Develop, write, and revise technical documentation, including design reports, test reports, and supporting engineering documents.
  • Provide technical leadership, consultation, and guidance to specialized engineering groups and other technical personnel.
  • Research, prepare, and deliver technical presentations to customers and the broader technical community to enhance the organization’s reputation.
  • Initiate and maintain external contacts with key experts and officials in other companies, national laboratories, academic institutions, and government agencies.
  • Prepare, present, and defend project technical results and recommendations to customers, and participate in formal technical reviews.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical and cost portions of proposals related to your area of expertise.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant mechanical engineering disciplines, industry practices, trends, and applications, and advise management on new developments and programs.
  • Direct and mentor technical personnel as needed to support project objectives.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure adherence to safety objectives, standards, and policies.
  • Actively engage in self-development and collaborate with your supervisor to identify growth opportunities and development goals.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BS in ME).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience using CAD modeling tools to create complex solid models.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of concept and preliminary mechanical design experience.
  • Proficiency with PTC Pro/E Wildfire and CREO for mechanical design and modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical design, including sheet metal design and structural design.
  • Strong ability to interpret and create detailed engineering drawings, models, and documentation.
  • Strong ability to perform engineering calculations, technical analysis, and evaluation of test results.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation, collaboration, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team player in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in large structures and large assembly design and modeling.
  • Background in military or Department of Defense (DoD) related projects or environments.
  • Experience working as a mechanical designer with a focus on complex assemblies and structures.
  • Familiarity with structural design practices for mechanical systems and mechanisms.
  • Experience preparing technical and cost inputs for engineering proposals.
  • Comfort presenting technical information to customers and technical review boards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Work Environment

You will work in an office-based engineering environment alongside other designers, drafters, and engineers, collaborating closely on complex mechanical systems and large assemblies. The role involves regular cross-functional communication with other areas of the organization to align design, analysis, and project objectives. Orientation and initial training will take place in the office, after which you will transition to a hybrid work arrangement, with an expectation to be on-site for a total of 40 hours over a two-week period. The environment is professional and safety-focused, with access to specialized engineering software such as PTC Pro/E Wildfire and CREO, as well as other tools required for mechanical design, modeling, and analysis.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
