Mechanical Engineer
About the role
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to provide technical oversight on engineered projects, including drafting and designing using CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD, performing application engineering on dry fertilizer conveying and blending equipment, and collaborating with project managers and sales teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight on assigned engineered projects.
- Perform drafting and design work using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Conduct application engineering for dry fertilizer conveying and blending equipment.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to gather necessary project information.
- Update general layout drawings and finalize project documentation.
- Guide designers and drafters in performing project design work.
- Review and check work performed by mechanical engineers, designers, and drafters.
- Coordinate with engineering support staff to release drawings to manufacturing and shipping.
- Maintain awareness of current product lines and competitor equipment.
- Produce equipment models, detailing, and field assembly drawings.
- Layout plans, sections, and details according to specified CAD standards.
- Write Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) for design changes or standardization.
- Coordinate work with other departments within the organization.
- Handle field issues and questions, applying drafting standards and best practices.
- Maintain files and records.
- Travel occasionally to construction sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 4-year B.S. Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Fluent in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Strong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of OSHA regulations.
Skills
- Experience in agriculture, material handling, material blending, or the fertilizer industry.
- Productivity, dependability, resourcefulness, efficiency, and professionalism.
Work Environment
The role operates primarily Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The office is situated upstairs with the engineering department, and the position involves supporting computer design with occasional visits to the shop floor to inspect parts. The work environment offers a relaxed atmosphere where team members can wear jeans and t-shirts. Pay
The pay range for this position is $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a permanent, fully onsite position based in Dakota City, IA.
