About the role
The Mechanical Discipline Manager will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical aspects of thermal infrastructure projects, providing engineering resources to support project goals, and coordinating with other disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Technical and Quality oversight of all project work.
- Establishing/improving standards.
- Adherence to project design schedule.
- Notification to Project/Client Managers if an established project design schedule cannot be met.
- Adherence to discipline project budget.
- Review and provide updates on project budgets at milestone dates.
- Attention to project scope during the design process to identify potential additional services.
- Identify staff performing design of the project, along with a senior staff member if required.
- Identify Engineer of Record.
- Provide general updates of projects (status in the process, tasks to complete, percentage complete currently, etc.).
- Identify milestone dates when each discipline should provide information, at each phase, to allow sufficient time to good design coordination.
- Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions, technical and cost estimates.
- Cordination with all the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
- Work schedule for discipline showing: Project assignments and priorities, Delivery due dates for group project commitments, Workload/Capacity.
Requirements
- Experience in the design of institutional, educational, healthcare, laboratory and military projects.
- A proven history of solid design work, meeting project deadlines and budgets.
- Working well in a team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer’s license.
- Existing licensure in NC and/or VA is preferred.
- 15+ years of technical experience in the design of thermal distribution systems, central utility plants, and/or building mechanical systems.
- Experience in AutoCAD, Civil3D, and/or drafting is a plus.
- Experience in pipe stress modeling is a plus.
- Self-motivated and well organized.
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
