Responsibilities
- Work on the design, development and improvement of fusion technology related components using 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Collaborate with senior designers, engineers, and physicists in the creation of 3D components and assemblies.
- Create 2D drawings to be used for fabrication.
- Communicate with engineering and design staff through the fabrication and assembly process.
- Support not only mechanical design, but also expect to participate in the mechanical assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of these systems.
- Support senior technical staff in a variety of projects involving vacuum, cryogenics, high pressure, and electromagnetic fields.
Requirements
- A strong understanding of the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and American Welding Society (AWS) notation in engineering drawings is required.
- Significant experience with one or more CAD programs such as Creo (formerly Pro/Engineer), SolidWorks or Catia is required.
- Significant experience in Creo (Pro/Engineer) and an associated PDM (Windchill) is required.
- Familiarity with fabrication processes and design for manufacturability is required.
- Must be a self-starter, able to work independently or in a team.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Candidate must be a US Citizen.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the design of components related to vacuum or cryogenic systems is preferred.
- Experience in hands-on troubleshooting, assembly, and disassembly of mechanical systems.
Qualifications
- This position requires an associate’s degree with 5-6 years of relevant experience or a high school diploma with 7-8 years relevant experience.
