Mechanical Designer
About the role
Sentry Equipment is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our team. As a 100% employee-owned company, we value collaboration and innovation. The role involves supporting both application engineering and product design, working closely with various departments.
Responsibilities
- Examine and analyze new product applications to determine feasibility of application, operation, and manufacturability
- Select and integrate mechanical components to meet customer, performance, and code requirements
- Prepare proposal and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks, along with Bills of Materials (BOMs) in ERP
- Develop and maintain production order packages, including quality documentation and updated Installation, Operation & Maintenance manuals
- Check your own and others’ drawings for accuracy of dimensions, fits, tolerances, and completeness
- Apply applicable codes and standards such as ASME, IBC, ANSI, ATEX, TEMA, API, UL/CSA, and CE (as required, mechanical scope only)
- Collaborate with Production, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to ensure designs are optimized for efficient fabrication and assembly
- Initiate and document Engineering Changes as designs evolve
- Assist with testing and troubleshooting of products in the shop and, occasionally, in the field
- Take ownership of all responsibilities associated with a Designer role, while supporting continuous improvement across engineering processes
- Perform other duties as assigned as business needs evolve
Requirements
Two-year technical degree with applicable experience in mechanical design and application of similar products
Five or more years of experience in a technical role with product design responsibilities in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Skills & Attributes
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks), ERP systems, and Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail—ensuring designs are accurate, serviceable, cost-effective, and complete for manufacturing
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to plan work and meet deadlines
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proven initiative, self-direction, and creative problem-solving ability
- Comfortable checking others’ work and providing constructive technical feedback
