Mechanical Designer
Responsibilities
- Performing advanced heating and cooling load calculations
- Developing sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas
- Developing equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases
- Editing specifications to reflect the project requirements
- Developing air and water flows
- Understanding fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application
- Using the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system
- Meeting with vendors to determine specification requirements for application
- Coinciding with other disciplines (MEPFP, ARCH, STRUCT, etc.) for all HVAC details
- Responding to RFI’s for the project, and accurately reviewing submittals
- Understanding work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the plan
- Understanding the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and delivering appropriate documentation
- Modifying sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems
- Understanding both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applying equipment
- Meting with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details
- Performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
- EIT (Engineer in Training) a plus
- 2-5 years of experience
- Good understanding of engineering concepts, design, and spatial requirements
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Proactive and collaborative team member
- Experience in designing Healthcare, Commercial, Higher Education or Laboratory projects is preferred

Salary Range for 2-5 years of experience: $80,000 - $105,000

BR+A Consulting Engineers is seeking a Mechanical Designer for our Chicago, IL office. This position requires a candidate who is highly motivated, organized, and proactive.
