About the role
The Mechanical Designer I supports the design and development of HVAC equipment by creating models, drawings, and assemblies using CAD tools. This role assists with product development, maintains design documentation, and ensures accuracy in technical specifications while working under guidance to complete design updates and support engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop and modify models, assemblies, and technical drawings using CAD software.
- Assist in creation of conceptual and preliminary designs to support product development.
- Perform updates and revisions to existing designs based on engineering input.
- Complete assigned design tasks and projects based on engineering direction and requirements.
- Maintain and track design-related work associated with internal processes and orders.
- Collaborate with engineers, management, and cross-functional teams to support design solutions.
- Generate and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing and production.
- Ensure drawings and models meet company standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Maintain technical knowledge by participating in training, development opportunities, and industry learning.
- Support engineering teams with documentation, design changes, and product updates.
- Assist with prototype development and testing support activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to design processes.
- Travel as needed to support design validation or operational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate degree or technical degree in drafting, design, mechanical technology, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in design, drafting, or a related field, or any combination of education and experience providing an equivalent background.
- Experience in HVAC or a manufacturing environment preferred.
Skills
- Basic knowledge of mechanical design and drafting principles.
- Proficiency in both 2D and 3D CAD software and design tools.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings.
- Ability to follow engineering standards and design guidelines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal and structural steel materials and their properties.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions and apply basic design concepts.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Essential and Physical Functions
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing computer-based work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to navigate and work within manufacturing environments safely.
Work Environment
- Perform work in both office and engineering design environments.
- Frequent use of computer systems and CAD tools for extended periods.
- Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments with varying temperatures, noise, and industrial conditions.
- Regular interaction with engineering teams, production staff, and leadership.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required when visiting production areas.
