Mechanical Design Engineering Internship (Summer 2027)
About the Role
The intern will assist the mechanical engineering team with design activities for Vertiv’s liquid cooling systems. Tasks include 3D modeling, BoM updates, drawings creation, and support during design reviews. Exposure to Vertiv’s Creo modeling standards and PLM workflows will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Work within engineering team(s) to accomplish conceptual and detailed design elements for Thermal systems.
- Create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements.
- Review mechanical product specifications and requirements.
- Create bills of material and change orders.
- Use and/or create Thermal system models.
- Conduct simple CFD and FEA analysis.
- Create CAD layout & drawings for mechanical systems.
- Create component detail drawings.
- Work with Vertiv’s business units, Business Partners and preferred vendors to select and source mechanical components.
- Support for new product development team activities.
- Participate in test design and data reduction for Thermal products.
Requirements
- Undergraduate or Graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering or similar with a thermal focus and interest.
- Working knowledge/experience in 3-D CAD modeling software such as Solidworks, Solid Edge, CREO, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge/experience with advanced modeling software for finite element analysis, flow modeling, and system dynamics, such as ANSYS, MatLab, Simulink, EES or equivalent.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications.
- Experience reading and interpreting drawings and specifications.
- Ability to research new designs, technologies, and methods.
- Ability to think outside the box to find creative and innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Detail oriented.
Desired Skills
- 3D CAD modeling (e.g., Solid Edge, CREO).
- Physics models (e.g., ANSYS for FEA and CFD).
- System analysis (e.g., Matlab, Simulink, EES).
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred Major/Field of Study: Mechanical Engineering.
- Preferred Year: Junior or Senior.
- Tools/Skills Exposure: Creo CAD, Oracle PD Cloud PLM.
