Mechanical Design Engineer Project Manager
About the role
A respected employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design/Engineer Project Manager to join its growing Denver team. The firm specializes in designing high-performance, resilient, and sustainable building systems with a strong focus on complex healthcare, institutional, infrastructure, science, and technology projects.
Key Responsibilities
Manage mechanical engineering projects from planning through construction.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and execution strategies.
Lead multidisciplinary project teams across multiple offices and locations.
Monitor project performance, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, and profitability.
Proactively identify and mitigate project risks.
Facilitate project meetings and coordinate communication among all stakeholders.
Ensure successful project delivery that meets schedule, budget, and client expectations.
Mechanical Design & Technical Leadership
Lead and/or perform HVAC and mechanical system design for healthcare, commercial, institutional, and other complex building projects.
Conduct engineering analyses, load calculations, equipment selections, and system studies.
Prepare or oversee construction documents, specifications, and technical deliverables.
Review engineering documents for quality, constructability, code compliance, and technical accuracy.
Cookordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and specialty disciplines.
Ensure designs align with applicable codes, industry standards, and project requirements.
Construction Administration
Respond to RFIs and review contractor submittals.
Participate in site visits and field observations.
Resolve construction-related technical issues.
Support projects through successful completion in coordination with owners and contractors.
Business Development
Assist with proposals, interviews, presentations, and project pursuits.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients.
Represent the firm professionally within the local market and industry.
Team Leadership
Mentor and support engineers and designers.
Participate in quality assurance and quality control efforts.
Promote technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
Collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines.
Work Environment
The role offers a hybrid work arrangement based in the Denver metropolitan area. This includes remote work, periodic client site visits, and occasional office collaboration. Approximately 10–20% travel, primarily within Colorado with occasional domestic travel.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
6+ years of mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience within the AEC consulting industry.
Proven experience managing multidisciplinary building engineering projects.
Strong HVAC and mechanical system design experience for healthcare, institutional, commercial, or other complex facilities.
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing client relationships.
Demonstrated ability to deliver projects from planning through construction.
Proposal development and client presentation experience preferred.
Technical Skills:
Advanced knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building systems.
Strong understanding of building codes, industry standards, and integrated design practices.
Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and mechanical design/calculation software.
Experience overseeing design quality and technical reviews.
Familiarity with sustainable, resilient, and high-performance building design principles.
Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and presentation skills.
Licensure:
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $120,000 – $165,000 annually
