Mechanical Designer/Engineer Project Manager

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage mechanical engineering projects from planning through construction.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Develop project scopes, work plans, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and project execution strategies.
  • Led or perform the design of HVAC and mechanical building systems for commercial, institutional, and healthcare projects.
  • Support collaboration across Mazzetti’s disciplines and practices.
  • Participate in quality control reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Foster knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the Mechanical discipline.
  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, participate in site visits, and resolve technical issues during construction.
  • Coordinate with contractors, owners, and project teams to support successful project delivery through project completion.

Mechanical Design & Technical Oversight

  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, equipment selections, and system studies.
  • Prepare or oversee construction documents, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Review engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications for quality, constructability, code compliance, and technical excellence.
  • Cookordination mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and specialty disciplines.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, client requirements, and Mazzetti quality expectations.

Business Development

  • Support project pursuits through proposals, interviews, presentations, and technical discussions.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships that foster repeat business.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients.
  • Represent Mazzetti professionally within the local market and industry.

Work Location & Travel Requirements

This is a hybrid position based in the Denver, CO area, including primarily working from home, bi-weekly client site visits in the area, and occasional presence in our Denver office as needed for project collaboration and team-building activities.

Travel Requirements: Approximately 10–20% travel, primarily within Colorado with occasional domestic travel based on project assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent mechanical design experience.
  • 6+ years of mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience within the AEC consulting industry.
  • Demonstrated success serving as the project manager for multidisciplinary building engineering projects, including responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, client communication, and overall project delivery.
  • Strong history of designing HVAC and mechanical building systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, or other complex facilities.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing client relationships.
  • Experience delivering complex building projects from planning through construction.
  • Experience supporting project pursuits, proposals, and client presentations preferred.

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building systems.
  • Strong understanding of applicable building codes, industry standards, and integrated building design.
  • Advanced proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and mechanical load calculation software.
  • Experience overseeing design quality, technical reviews, and project deliverables.
  • Familiarity with sustainable, resilient, and high-performance building design principles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, leadership, and organizational skills.
