Mechanical Design Engineer
About the role
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for design changes affecting mechanical equipment and fluid systems including tanks, pumps, valves, piping, filters, heat exchangers, contactors, and utility systems.
Responsibilities
- Prepare mechanical calculations, equipment specifications, piping design inputs, and installation packages.
- Support modifications to process equipment, piping systems, mechanical supports, and maintenance access features.
- Evaluate pressure boundaries, equipment replacement requirements, material compatibility, and reliability impacts.
- Cook up with process, structural, electrical, and radiological engineering on system interfaces.
- Support equipment selection, procurement inputs, installation support, and system turnover.
- Participate in field troubleshooting and mechanical design resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience with mechanical system design in industrial facilities.
- Knowledge of piping and equipment design practices.
- Experience with pumps, valves, tanks, filters, and heat exchangers in process plants.
- Familiarity with highly regulated or hazardous operating environments.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Proficient in mechanical design software.
