About the role

Fogg Filler is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. This position involves producing individual designs and documents for new products and product line enhancements, collaborating with manufacturing to determine the best manufacturing processes, and ensuring all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met through the application of engineering principles under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Performs in-depth investigation into materials, processes, and products as assigned by management.
  • Utilizes sound engineering principles to design new products or modify existing ones based on information provided by customer requests, feedback, sales/sales engineers, manufacturing personnel, or Fogg service team.
  • Determines the best design to minimize labor and overhead costs by working with manufacturing.
  • Reviews form, fit, and function of product designs with other engineering designers using SolidWorks.
  • Develops engineering detail and assembly documentation to support tooling quotations, manufacturing, and manufacturing preparation.
  • Requests prototypes from outside suppliers or manufacturing for engineering performance, concept evaluation, and reliability testing.
  • Analyzes competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance, and packaging.
  • Contact and, when necessary, visit customers, suppliers, and agencies to obtain information related to existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes.
  • Support Fogg customers and the Sales Department on project control specifications.
  • Answer engineering customer service telephone calls.
  • Aid the Quality Control Department when additional assistance is needed due to production demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering discipline or equivalent, preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering product line responsibilities and a minimum of 5 years of project engineering experience, with some supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and CAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • PC/Computer skills, including knowledge of word processing, data analysis, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Able to work in a team-oriented environment.
