About the Role
The Mechanical Computer Aided Design/Drafter (MCAD) performs detail design, drafting, and build/test support tasks to develop and deliver complex simulation and training devices and modification kits. The primary tool used is SolidWorks, though existing designs in AutoCAD or other CAD programs may occasionally be updated. The role involves close collaboration with Electrical Engineering, Project Engineering, and Mechanical Engineers to produce production-ready drawing packages.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineering to produce and release CAD models and drawings of electro-mechanical assemblies, subassemblies, and parts that are manufacturable, ergonomic, reliable, and maintainable. This includes designing structures, weldments, machined parts, sheet metal parts, printed parts, modifications, and installations in accordance with Government/Industry standards and Customer specifications.
- Provide build support to manufacturing by resolving design and documentation issues during production and documenting changes via engineering change documents.
- Support Mechanical Engineering in developing presentation materials for customer meetings, including requirement reviews, design reviews, and acceptance testing.
- Prepare for and participate in customer events such as configuration audits.
Requirements
- Experience:
- Mid-level: 2 to 5 years
- Senior-level: 5+ years
- Minimum of three years of practical experience using parametric modeling/drafting software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience using 2D CAD programs such as AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with engineering software tools like Microsoft Windows, MS Office, and Excel.
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to federal contractor obligations supporting the U.S. warfighter.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
- Must pass an initial background screening and pre-employment drug test; random drug testing is conducted in accordance with company policy.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and, occasionally, internationally to customer sites, partner locations, or project meetings.

Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Engineering Technology supplemented by advanced coursework in engineering drafting, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based, with low to moderate noise levels and variable lighting.
- Fast-paced environment with occasional extreme deadline pressures.
- High degree of teamwork and cooperation with staff and external customers.
- Occasional overtime or alternate shifts may be required to meet customer schedules or critical deadlines.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in small, confined spaces such as simulator cockpits.
- Typically involves sitting for extended periods, with brief periods of standing, walking, or bending.
- Extensive use of computer terminals to accomplish work objectives.
