About the role
The Mechanical Assembler plays a vital role in the hands-on assembly and modification of standard and custom mechanical parts, systems, and apparatus used in low and medium voltage power distribution solutions. Working as part of a skilled production team, this role is responsible for translating engineering, and technical drawings into high-quality, fully functional mechanical assemblies built to withstand the most demanding environments.
Responsibilities
- Champion a "Safety First" culture by maintaining a safe and clean working environment in compliance with all procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings to guide work assignments and position parts and subassemblies using templates or measurements.
- Align and assemble components made from sheet metal, structural steel, and cable tray, ensuring correct fit and proper fastening of parts and subassemblies.
- Drill and tap various electrical equipment including LV/MV MCCs, switchgear, UPS systems, and other associated equipment.
- Operate lifting devices such as toe jacks, overhead cranes, and forklifts to safely maneuver heavy components.
- Inspect parts and assemblies for defects such as pinholes, chips, or dents; replace defective components to maintain quality standards.
- Assemble prototype units and support the development of new assembly methods and techniques for production workflows.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Experience in mechanical assembly, preferably in an electrical equipment manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings.
- Proficiency with handheld tools and lifting equipment (toe jacks, overhead cranes, forklifts).
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, fit, and finish.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow both written and verbal instructions.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods in an active manufacturing facility.
- Ability to regularly lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work onsite in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts and lifting equipment.
- Exposure to moderate-to-high noise levels and varying temperatures.
Safety Requirements
