Mechanical and Fire Protection Lead
WSP is seeking a Mechanical and Fire Protection Lead with the potential to work out of Arlington, VA; Virginia Beach, VA; Denver, CO; Tacoma, WA; San Diego, CA; Dallas, TX; Richmond, VA; or San Antonio, TX. This role involves projects with our Federal Programs AEC Team within a growing organization focused on meeting client objectives and solving challenges.
About the role
Lead the development and management of the Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Engineering teams for WSP USA Federal Programs AEC Team. Responsibilities include managing MP/FP staff, recruitment, mechanical engineering design, technical leadership, and mentorship. You will also review work for code compliance and constructability, estimate design effort, assist in fee preparations, negotiate with firms and contractors, and address contractor submittals and RFIs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Engineering teams.
- Oversee project assignments and maintain targeted staff utilization.
- Recruit additional MP/FP staff as needed.
- Perform mechanical engineering design and production support from project inception through construction.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Review mechanical engineers' work for code compliance and constructability.
- Estimate design effort and assist in fee preparations.
- Negotiate with Architectural-Engineering firms and General Contractors.
- Address contractor submittals and requests for information (RFIs).
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer working on facilities/building projects.
- Professional Engineering license.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Department of Defense projects (USACE/NAVFAC).
- Ability to travel (domestic and international).
- Familiarity with both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build delivery methods.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and conduct policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active or ability to obtain a US Government issued security clearance or CAC.

Pay
Expected salary ranges:
- All locations: $153,000 - $225,000.
- Colorado only: $163,800 - $210,000.
Compensation is based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity. WSP reserves the right to adjust pay and benefits based on circumstances unrelated to an applicant’s protected status.
