Knowledge and Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be enrolled in a Vehicle Maintenance/Diesel Technician program and complete at least 2 years (4 semesters) of the Apprentice program
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Basic comprehension and math skills, intermediate computer experience
  • Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Must maintain a valid Virginia driver's license
  • Pass a background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule in a 24/7 work environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Occasionally work outdoors in extreme weather conditions (hot and/or cold)
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals in a ventilated maintenance shop
  • May walk and/or stand for over four (4) hours per day
  • Uses personal computer (PC), laptop, and electronic hand-held devices (cell phone, two-way radio)
  • Works around heavy machinery

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Work up to 25 hours per week
  • Keep full-time status and GPA of 3.0 at designated higher education learning center
  • Gain entry-level understanding of all systems onboard fleet transportation vehicles
  • Perform oil and lube services
  • Assist in preventative maintenance inspections and documentation
  • Assist mentor with routine repairs/maintenance of equipment
  • Continuously learn new technical information and techniques through formal and informal training sessions
  • Keep an organized service department workspace
  • Maintain a customer-focused attitude to complement high level of motivation and energy
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
  • Minimize waste
  • Exhibit knowledge and use of proper safety equipment at all times
  • Follow Company attendance policy
  • Successfully pass established competency test for step progression
