The Department of Transportation is seeking a Mechanic Supervisor to lead a skilled team responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining essential vehicles and tools. This role supports critical public services while fostering team growth and development.
Responsibilities
- Manage inspection, repair, and maintenance of vehicles and tools powered by gasoline or diesel engines.
- Assign tasks to mechanics and ensure accuracy of work orders, parts usage, and time reporting.
- Guide mechanics in diagnosing complex equipment issues and selecting appropriate repair methods.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, promoting proper safety procedures.
- Evaluate staff performance, approve leave, coach employees, and resolve daily work problems.
- Supervise shop staff and manage inventory, parts purchases, and specialized equipment needs.
Requirements
- Four years of journey-level mechanical experience in diagnosing and repairing automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid Class A or B Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Active Pennsylvania Class 4 or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification.
- One year of experience or training in the repair or maintenance of diesel engines.
- Possession of a valid Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) by the first day of employment.
- Possession of a valid Hazardous Materials Endorsement (H) within the probationary period.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
Schedule
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Availability for mandatory or unscheduled overtime, including general overtime call-outs.
- No telework option available for this position.
