About the role

Mechanic B Tech will have 3-4 years experience. Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair all vehicles and equipment in service with minimal supervision. Must be able to teach Mechanic Cs as time permits some repair techniques that are not routine in nature. Must demonstrate mechanical proficiency and mentoring capabilities. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair all vehicles and equipment in service with minimal supervision.
• Teach Mechanic Cs some repair techniques that are not routine in nature.
• Inspect equipment, structures, etc., of materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
• Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
• Install equipment, engines, hoses, batteries, tires, wheels/brakes, HVAC, wiring, etc., or program to meet specifications.
• Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly.
• Service, repairs, adjusts, and tests machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical principles.
• Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery such as pumps and compressors.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
• Operate valve-grinding machines to grind and reset valves.
• Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
• Repair and adjust seats, doors, and windows, and install and repair accessories.
• Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
• Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
• Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.
• Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
• Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
• Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
• Install or rebuild diesel engines.
• Repair and adjust seats, doors, and windows, and install and repair accessories.
• Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.
• Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
• Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
• Other duties to ensure the safe operation and efficiency of the department.

Qualifications

Pay

CBA Position Starting pay $37.44 to $39.50.

Schedule

Physical Demands: 10% of work is accomplished in doors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities. 90% of work is accomplished outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; most work is performed alone and in remote locations. Frequently stands and walks; ability to sit for up to three hours; walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift or handle material weighing up to 50 to 75 lbs. without assistance; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch; and corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication. Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job. Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise. Exposure to cleaning solutions, oils, and other liquids. Must be able to travel for company training, meetings, or support missions.
