Mechanic

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Performs preventative and corrective maintenance functions.
• Affords assistance in inspection of plant and mechanical equipment for malfunctions and needed repairs.
• Affords assistance in performance of troubleshooting and repair work and determination of repair methods.
• Lubricates equipment and checks for malfunction.
• Participates in cleaning and maintenance of machinery, equipment buildings and pump stations.
• Affords assistance in installation and set-up of new equipment.
• Performs minor plumbing and pipe-fitting tasks.
• Affords assistance in using gas and/or arc welding equipment to heat, cut, braze, or weld.
• Consults with Maintenance Foreman, Maintenance Manager, or equipment representatives on difficult or complicated repairs.
• Performs clean up, painting, and adjustment of equipment.
• Performs duties of an operator as required.
• Performs Carpentry work.
• Performs upkeep of structures and grounds.
• Affords assistance to Road Crew when required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Relevant Trade School education or equivalent experience preferred.
• One year of experience working with mechanical equipment similar to that used in a wastewater treatment plant preferred.
• General knowledge of the operation of equipment and the methods of maintenance and repair of machinery, instrumentation, and controls.
• Ability to review written maintenance literature and accurately interpret manuals and drawings with minimum outside assistance.
• Ability to perform basic use of hand tools.
