Mechanic

About the Role

The Mechanic supports mechanical service and retrofit work by performing sheet metal modifications, mechanical piping tasks, and strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) execution. This role ensures safe, high-quality work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active job sites while following job specifications and torque requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform sheet metal modification and installation to support mechanical equipment, ducting interfaces, and field-fit needs.
• Remove and replace pipe gaskets; prepare flange faces, align flanges, and verify proper fit-up and sealing surfaces.
• Complete chiller valve replacements, including isolation support, removal/replacement, reassembly, and operational checks per job requirements.
• Install flanged pipe couplings and hardware; torque to specification using appropriate tools and documented torque requirements.
• Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): identify energy sources, isolate equipment, apply lockout/tagout devices, and verify zero-energy state per procedure.
• Read and work from job documentation (drawings, specs, work orders) to complete tasks correctly the first time.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area; use PPE; follow all safety policies and jobsite rules.
• Communicate job status, material needs, and field issues to the supervisor/foreman; document completed work as required.
• Use and maintain tools and equipment properly, including torque wrenches and standard mechanical hand/power tools.
• Support troubleshooting and basic mechanical service tasks within your skillset; escalate issues when needed.

Requirements

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in mechanical service, piping, HVAC mechanical, plumbing, or industrial maintenance.
• Working knowledge of flanges, gaskets, valves, mechanical connections, and proper tool use including torque tools.
• Familiarity with jobsite safety practices and hazard awareness.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work safely in active job environments.
• Must be able to travel to construction sites as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to understand oral and written instructions; effective verbal communication.
• Compliance with company dress code and appearance standards.
• Visual acuity for reading small print and identifying details on equipment and drawings.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for handling materials and tools.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs frequently and over long distances (30+ feet).
• Comfortable working at heights over 30 feet and climbing ladders or stairs.
• Ability to bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces; perform repetitive motions as needed.
• Work in varying weather conditions and environments.
