Mechanic

About the role

The successful Mechanic will be mechanically sound, safety minded, but a great problem solver. This position is responsible for heavy duty engine repairs, maintenance, manual transmission upkeep, electronic engine controls, and general electric and hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repair.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs preventive maintenance inspections on all trucks, trailers, lifts
• Performs general maintenance repairs on all trucks, trailers, lifts, works with other shop employees in order to maintain a clean working environment
• Performs preventive maintenance inspections: according to the schedule, performs all needed repairs indicated by preventive maintenance inspection
• Performs general repairs to electrical systems, starters, lights, alternators and wiring harness, brakes, including installing, engines, gasoline and, transmissions, front and rear ends, air systems, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, reefers, fuel tankers
• Maintain a proficiency level of at least 80%
• Works closely with and is accountable to Shop Supervisor
• May take direction from Master Skilled I & II Mechanics
• Also work with drivers in order to diagnose problems

Qualifications

• Two years of mechanic experience
• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems
• Ability to perform general repairs on gasoline engines, electrical and air conditioning systems and hydraulic systems
• Ability to perform types of welding such as structural steel and aluminum wire welding
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
• Must possess a basic set of hand tools up to 1/2 inch drive set

• The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and lift up to 40 lbs.

Education & Qualifications

• Certifications, plus 2 years work experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills and able to work well in a structured environment
