About the role
This position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing DOTD equipment such as passenger vehicles, trucks, tractors, trailers, and heavy equipment. Common repairs include but are not limited to air and hydraulic brakes, engine and transmission, drive assemblies, heating and air conditioning, exhaust and emission control, steering and suspension, PTO and hydraulic systems, and engine rebuilds.
The position is located in District 62, Unit 071 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Mechanic Supervisor B. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.

Job Duties and Other Information
Incorporates visual and audible inspection with the use of a wide range of computerized test equipment such as electronic scanners, engine analyzers, exhaust analyzers, oscilloscopes, and various testers and meters as well as non-computerized test equipment to diagnose equipment/vehicles.
Troubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions and fuel injection systems. Disassembles, diagnoses, overhauls, rebuilds, and/or repairs heavy equipment or complex systems such as engines, transmissions, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, gear reduction systems electrical systems, suspension systems, brake systems, exhaust emission control systems etc.
Performs electrical fabrication on specialized equipment. May assist in the training of lower level mechanics on the repairs and testing of equipment. May operate wrecker to recover and transport inoperative vehicles.
Career Progression
This position will be filled as a MECHANIC 3 only.
Licensing Requirements
A valid Louisiana Drivers License prior to start date.
Additional Compensation
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
