About the Role

To assist customers in their shopping experience by receiving, cutting, and serving meat products in an efficient, friendly, and courteous manner. This role ensures customers receive quality smoked meats daily and supports the Meat Department through stocking, packaging, and displaying products. The position also involves assisting customers at the meat counter and with smoked products.

This is a non-exempt position reporting to the Meat Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Follow proper techniques for cutting and preparing items for display cases.
  • Smoke various meats to be sold in the store.
  • Monitor product expiration dates and ensure proper rotation of items.
  • Remove damaged, unsaleable, or returnable products and follow procedures for damage claims.
  • Accurately count and record merchandise as part of the inventory process.
  • Change shelf tags, price markers, and label merchandise quickly and accurately.
  • Answer customer questions accurately and courteously regarding department items, procedures, and policies.
  • Assist customers at the counter by weighing, wrapping, and pricing selected items.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards for individual and team results.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
  • Implement Casentino Customer Service Standards.
  • Unload, sort, and stock incoming shipments without damaging merchandise.
  • Stock department shelves by matching UPC codes to shelf tags and front-facing products.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and department for customers and coworkers.
  • Comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
  • Promote new items and weekly specials through effective merchandising and displays (non-essential).
  • Monitor the department for potential security issues and report concerns to management (non-essential).
  • Complete additional tasks as identified by management and assist other departments as needed (non-essential).

Requirements

  • Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Complete ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred (non-essential).

Skills

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
  • Basic math and reading skills required for the position.

Physical Abilities

  • Reach overhead (up to 72 inches) and lift objects weighing up to 20 lbs with both hands.
  • Push and pull grocery items/carts with a peak force of up to 40 lbs.
  • Stand and walk for long periods on hard surfaces (tile, asphalt, concrete).
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Bend, squat, and crouch, including to floor level.
  • Work in colder conditions, such as grocery coolers and freezers.
  • Climb a ladder up to 5 ft (non-essential).
