Blank Rome is seeking an independent, personable, and detailed Paralegal to support the attorneys on a variety of complex litigation matters managed in our Florida offices. Under the direction and supervision of attorneys, paralegals are expected to provide advanced, complex assistance in support of client case teams.Essential Functions
- Apply existing knowledge of the processes and procedures for Florida Federal and State Courts to file court documents, including utilizing the e-filing process.
- Assist attorneys in the review and drafting of various legal documents with an emphasis on the matrimonial practice in Florida.
- Cite check, edit legal documents, and manage all documents and materials relevant to legal proceedings in various courts.
- Conduct legal and factual research including electronic research.
- Draft Net Worth Statements and/or Financial Affidavits using the applicable software.
- Prepare written memorandum and summaries relating to research results.
- Absorb documents for appropriate classification (e.g. Attorney Client Privilege).
- Provide assistance before and during trials.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
- Work additional hours as needed to fulfill job requirements.
Skills/Qualifications
- 3+ years of paralegal experience.
- Bachelor’s degree, paralegal certification, or equivalent work experience required.
- Experience in a legal environment or professional services required.
- Experience with a broad range of litigation paralegal experience, with an emphasis on corporate governance and fiduciary matters, merger and acquisition litigation, derivative suits, and general commercial litigation.
- Experience in family law and matrimonial matters, including divorce proceedings, custody disputes, equitable distribution, and alimony.
- Familiarity with Florida Family Law Rules of Procedure and Florida Statutes Chapter 61 (Dissolution of Marriage).
- Experience with electronic discovery, in particular, Everlaw, Relativity, and Opus 2.
- Experience with document review and document production preferred.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to develop positive working relationships (in-person and virtually).
- The ability to work effectively with high level clients.
- The ability to analyze and synthesize complex or diverse information.
- The ability to collect and research data.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks with effective organizational skills.
- Proven problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Unquestioned integrity and professionalism.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Proficient in web-based conference call/web-sharing applications.
- Experience preparing and organizing financial disclosures, including mandatory disclosure requirements under Florida Family Law.
- Experience coordinating with expert witnesses, including forensic accountants, business valuators, and custody evaluators.
- The ability to handle sensitive and emotionally charged matters with discretion and professionalism.
- Notary Public certification preferred.
