Mathematics Academies Specialist (Education Specialist IV)

About the role

The Mathematics Academies Specialist plays a crucial role in improving core mathematics instruction for K-5 students statewide. This position is dedicated to developing and delivering high-quality professional development resources and materials, ensuring all K-5 educators have access to research-based practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the development, revision, and delivery of engaging content, stakeholder feedback processes, and robust support structures supporting implementation, focusing on high-quality mathematics instruction.
• Ensure all Mathematics Academies resources and supports are tailored for K-5 educators, are research-based, and address the needs of students in the classroom.
• Support in the phased rollout of Texas Mathematics Academies for K-3 classrooms.
• Collaborate with internal TEA teams such as Product Academies, Open Education Resources, and RBIS, and external partners to design, align, develop, and deliver high-quality resources and professional development materials for K-5 Mathematics Academies.
• Ensure all content reflects the most effective research-based math practices and is accessible and relevant to all K-5 classrooms and students.
• Monitor deliverable quality and provide instructional feedback to ensure rigor and equity for all students.
• Engage professionally with a wide array of stakeholders, including K-5 teachers, campus instructional leaders, ESC specialists, district educators, and other education partners, to gather input, align shared goals, and advance a unified vision for effective mathematics instruction.
• Lead working groups, facilitate regular communications, and professional learning experiences to promote collaboration and continuous improvement in early math achievement.
• Collect and analyze data and feedback from K-5 classrooms to inform ongoing development, evaluation, and refinement of Mathematics Academies content and supports.
• Serve as K-5 mathematics content expert, adapting content and strategies as needed, and ensuring continued alignment with state standards, local needs, and agency priorities for K-5 mathematics initiatives.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in education, mathematics, or a related field.
• At least four (4) years of experience in teaching, curriculum, and/or administrative roles relevant to K-8 mathematics in school districts, at regional education service centers (ESCs), in university settings, and/or with statewide initiatives.
• An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience.
