About the Role

Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is a newly independent public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. A proud Hispanic Serving Institution, it awards certificates and associate degrees that serve the needs of its region and prepare students to transfer to programs at other colleges or universities. SENMC offers Early College and Dual Credit programs in collaboration with local high schools. The college enjoys the strong support of its community and has been awarded several grants, including $11.7 million from the U.S. Department of Energy and several multimillion-dollar grants from the U.S. Department of Education for student support.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students in all Mathematics courses, including the newly developed Co-Requisite courses, in individual, group, and workshop formats.
  • May be embedded in Math courses to assist instructors with just-in time tutoring.
  • Create and implement tutorial programs that guide and assist students with homework, problem solving, report writing, and test preparation.
  • Assess student needs and develop individualized tutoring plans and mathematics-specific study strategies, including problem breakdown, formula application, and test-taking techniques.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus or external resources as needed.
  • Lead and train entry-level tutors on effective strategies, including approaches for diverse learning styles and students with disabilities.
  • Maintain and update confidential student records in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Research, select, and utilize instructional materials, including textbooks, software, and equipment to support tutoring sessions.
  • Develop supplemental materials such as handouts and study guides to enhance learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of peer counseling/tutoring processes and methods.
  • Knowledge of test administration techniques and procedures.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Basic data entry and/or word processing skills.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
