Math Tutor

About the role

A math tutor at Ivy Tech Community College serves as a bridge between the instructor and the student, helping to close the gap in understanding and improve academic performance. The role is both academic and supportive, with justification built on several key points.

Responsibilities

• Maintain consistency in availability to provide small group and one-on-one tutoring services to meet the demands and needs of students
• Define and follow through with each student on stated objectives and tutoring goals
• Provide tutoring in college algebra, finite, and quantitative reasoning
• Teach and assist students in the use of computer software as needed
• Maintain, guide, and instruct students in the use of software programs, Microsoft Excel, and supplemental materials directly related to courses
• Teach and encourage all students to utilize study skills and other college success techniques
• Operate computers, printers, and other hardware and business machines
• Work independently or in a team with other tutors

Qualifications

• Knowledge of content area being taught through prior coursework or work experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work with a diverse student body

Preferred qualifications

• Degree in a related area
• Previous tutoring or teaching experience
• Ability to tutor calculus

Pay

$15.00/hour

Schedule

12-15 hours per week
