About Abbott Lawrence Academy

Abbott Lawrence Academy (ALA) offers students in Lawrence an opportunity to experience a rich and rewarding honors education in the tradition of prestigious independent schools, free of charge. All students undergo a comprehensive admissions process, including an application and entrance exam. With an inaugural cohort of grade 9 students in 2015, ALA provides a personalized, accelerated academic program combined with robust enrichment opportunities on the Lawrence High School Campus. The school challenges students daily and prepares them for admission to competitive colleges and universities.

In addition to rigorous academics, ALA students must participate in a club or sport every year and complete at least 100 hours of community service. The goal is to develop well-rounded students equipped with the skills for successful post-secondary careers.

About the Role

The Math Teacher will organize and maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment while ensuring instruction aligns with the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks. This role involves designing developmentally appropriate challenges, providing rigorous instruction, and fostering strong habits of mind. The ideal candidate supports diverse learning styles and creates opportunities for students to work independently and collaboratively in grades 9-12.

Responsibilities

• Teach, reinforce, remediate, and ensure mastery of academic content with individual students, small groups, and whole classes (course sections may include Advanced Honors Algebra I, Advanced Honors Algebra II, Advanced Honors Geometry, First Year Experience, or Math Intervention).
• Design and implement curricula and activities to meet Common Core standards and frameworks at the honors, pre-AP, AP, and early college levels.
• Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standards and use data to refine curriculum and modify instructional practices.
• Maintain professional, consistent, and ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues.
• Engage families and community organizations as partners in the school’s mission.
• Provide support, accommodations, and attention to all students.
• Participate in school-wide planning, curriculum and professional development, collaborative team meetings, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where students are engaged and motivated, reinforcing expectations for behavior and teamwork.
• Model and promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement.
• Comply with school, district, and statewide policies and regulations.
• Regularly assess and document student learning and progress.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
• Massachusetts DESE Certification in Mathematics (Grades 8-12) REQUIRED.
• Experience working with high school students preferred.
• Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
• Experience in urban education and a commitment to community engagement preferred.

Pay

Salary in accordance with the Lawrence Teachers' Union Contract: $61,788 - $94,614.

This is a full-time, non-exempt salaried position for 183 days (LTU).
