About the role

The Academy for Technology and the Classics is a grades 7–12 public charter school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We maintain a familial atmosphere with a dedicated and highly qualified faculty. Depending on the applicant’s availability, this position will be either a 0.4 FTE 8th grade math teacher position or a 1.0 FTE 8th grade math and Algebra 1 position. We are looking for a candidate who enjoys working with 8th grade students and who has the skills needed to design 60- and 90-minute lessons that chunk and vary instruction to support the learning needs of middle schoolers. We believe that our middle school students deserve teachers who appreciate them and understand their developmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum development and implementation for all assigned courses; students are meaningfully engaged in rigorous learning “from bell to bell”
  • Update Canvas courses weekly to share lessons and curricula with all stakeholders
  • Design and analyze assessments for all assigned courses; use informal and formal assessments to inform students, faculty, and families of academic progress and individual needs
  • Update grades weekly
  • Plan and implement Student Advisory “College Crew” for grade-level support of college and career readiness
  • Engage parents/families through weekly contact in College Crew as needed regarding attendance and academics; use digital tools (Canvas, Remind, DeansList, PowerSchool) to communicate course expectations and progress
  • Participate in professional collaboration and learning; engage in reflective practice and attend departmental and grade-level team meetings; weekly collaborative planning is typical
  • Provide personalized learning and support for all students; collaborate with IEP teams, case managers, and EL support staff to implement highly effective individualized education plans
  • Engage in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities with students; sponsor or supervise academic support and enrichment activities typically three times per week
  • Assist in orderly school operations; equitably apply and adhere to school policies/procedures; perform supervisory duties weekly

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be licensed to teach in New Mexico and endorsed/highly qualified in the subject areas to which they apply; pre-service candidates should demonstrate enrollment in/completion of alternative licensure programming that qualifies the candidate for provisional New Mexico licensing
  • Demonstrated ability to work with middle school students, supporting their learning and sense of belonging in the classroom and the wider school community
  • Proficiency in the social-emotional dimensions of teaching; building effective relationships and rapport is the cornerstone to creating rigorous classroom and school environments that promote intellectual risk-taking
  • Proficiency in digital tools for the classroom, including but not limited to Google Suite, interactive whiteboards/peripherals, Canvas (LMS), and PowerSchool
