About the Role

A teacher in the Lamar County School District is expected to help students learn required subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.

Responsibilities

• Meet and instruct assigned classes at the assigned school and at times designated by the Principal.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, with lessons aligned to standards and representing a coherent sequence of learning.
• Ensure lessons have high levels of learning for all students and assist students in taking responsibility for their learning.
• Monitor student learning and provide multiple ways for students to make meaning of content.
• Manage a learning-focused classroom community, creating an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Manage classroom space, time, and resources effectively for student learning and maintain a classroom of respect for all students.
• Engage in professional learning and possess a growth mindset.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with families/guardians.
• Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the Principal.
• Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Communicate objectives to students and employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with student needs and physical limitations.
• Implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as assigned.
• Identify and report potential learning disabilities of students.
• Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
• Assist the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
• Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintain order fairly and justly.
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required.
• Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, and evaluate their job performance cooperatively with department heads.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence through participation in training sessions and classes.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
• Maintain responsibility for any district-owned fixed asset assigned and ensure appropriate use.
• Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure regular, timely, and dependable in-person attendance.
• Perform other duties as requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, or director.
• Read, understand, and abide by the Employee Conduct Policy, district policies, and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or higher.
• Hold an appropriate Mississippi Teaching Credential or valid emergency certification issued by the state of Mississippi Educational Board.
• Required endorsements: 901 or 154.
• Required references, official transcripts, official test scores, and background checks.
