Description of Work

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping at-risk youth. This position is a 12-month role within Edgecombe Youth Development Center teaching Math courses to small groups of students in grades 6-12.

  • Plan lessons based on the NC Standards and students' individual learning needs.
  • Ensure success for all students while providing appropriate and engaging activities to teach concepts.
  • Provide research-based strategies and interventions to deliver an appropriate education for all students.
  • Utilize data to inform instructional activities based on NC Standards, implement IEPs, and maintain all student records.
  • Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team to plan for student services and treatment.
  • Maintain up-to-date student records, exceptional children's program documentation, and student progress.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid North Carolina teacher license, "A" or "M", with teaching certification in Math (middle school) or Math (high school), or be eligible for a NC Teacher License through an alternative licensing pathway offered by NCDPI.
  • Hold a four-year college degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution.

Skills

  • Experience providing effective instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse needs.
  • Experience in creating a safe environment for students utilizing behavioral management techniques.
  • Experience in creating lessons that coincide with Common Core State Standards and NC Essential Skills to improve student achievement.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with work hours Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
