Core Responsibilities
- Plan and teach rigorous courses such as Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and Calculus.
- Design curriculum and daily lesson plans targeting specific Tennessee State Board of Education objectives.
- Adapt teaching methods to fit various learning styles, student capabilities, and individual needs.
- Administer tests, evaluate progress, and prepare students for End-of-Course (EOC) state standardized testing.
- Establish behavioral expectations, maintain safety, and foster a professional environment.
- Maintain regular verbal and written updates for parents regarding student progress and behavior.
- Attend faculty meetings, participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and engage in state or district-mandated training.
Job Requirements
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Valid Tennessee Educator License with an active secondary mathematics endorsement (e.g., Mathematics 6-12).
- Alternative Pathways: Out-of-state transfers or individuals enrolled in an approved Tennessee alternative certification program are often considered.
Typical Benefits and Contract Terms
- Contract Length: Typically 200 days per school year.
- Work Week: On-site work week (typically a 10-month contract of ~200 days) with requirements for after-school professional development or events.
- Functional Abilities: Strong verbal and written presentation skills to effectively explain abstract algebraic and geometric structures to a diverse population.
