Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer Specialty
Inova Fairfax - Willow Oaks Outpatient is seeking a dedicated Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer Specialty to join the team. This role is full-time, Monday through Friday, with a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance available.
Job Responsibilities
- Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical maternal-fetal history and informed consent, assisting the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination.
- Explains the procedure to patients/families and answers questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
- Aids physicians in performing CVS, Amniocentesis, and image optimization studies using departmental protocols.
- Demonstrates thorough understanding of maternal fetal ultrasound principles and theory, specialized fetal anatomy, pathology, and physiology.
- Utilizes fetal anatomical knowledge to position patients for optimal image quality, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Uses analytical abilities to select appropriate images for the physician's interpretation, measuring maternal fetal area structures and pathology.
- Accurately obtains and evaluates color flow and Doppler waveforms to determine if further evaluation is needed.
- Records all data, images, and technical notes to facilitate the physician's interpretation.
- Participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiatives, in-services, and meetings.
- Maintains ultrasound imaging transducers and equipment in a neat and safe condition.
- Maintains logs related to cleaning techniques and disinfection procedures.
Requirements
- BLS certification upon start
- Completion of the Inova Nuchal Translucency (NT) Program within 6 months for team members without the Nuchal Translucency Certification
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics & Gynecology upon start
- No licensure required
- Two years of hospital or doctor's office-based experience in specialized maternal-fetal sonography detecting fetal anomalies
