Qualifications

• Education: High School, GED
• Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State
• Minimum Qualifications: Nursing degree, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the State of Kansas
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in public health nursing, maternal-child health, or STI prevention and treatment
• Demonstrated knowledge of STI case management, partner services, and perinatal infectious disease protocols
• Experience as a Senior Disease Intervention Specialist or in communicable disease control is highly desirable

• Strong communication, organizational, and teaching skills; comfortable with electronic health records and disease surveillance platforms

Compensation: Pay Range: ($32.06-$34.65)

Position Summary & Responsibilities: Disease Intervention and Case Management: Perform confidential interviews with clients diagnosed with STIs to identify and notify partners, prevent reinfection, and interrupt transmission chains. Conduct STI, HIV, and Hepatitis screenings through the collection of blood and urine specimens in both clinical and field settings. Ensure all specimens are handled, labeled, and transported in compliance with established protocols and biosafety standards. Lead case management for complex STI cases, including congenital syphilis, HIV, and high-priority outbreaks. Clinicians will facilitate referrals and coordinate linkages to appropriate services, including but not limited to reproductive health, prenatal care, substance use treatment, mental health services, and housing or legal assistance. Collaborate with epidemiologists, laboratories, and providers to ensure accurate and timely reporting, investigation, and follow-up of communicable diseases. Participate in field investigations and community outreach activities as needed, including home visits and mobile clinic support. Prepares and presents timely updates to supervisors and program leadership as requested on investigative outcomes, emerging local trends, identified service gaps, and potential issues revealed through data analysis.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

• Maternal and STI Clinical Services: Clinicians are responsible for completing clinical follow-up activities, including third trimester and at-birth STI testing in accordance with CDC recommendations. Clinicians will perform routine follow-up on cases throughout the course of pregnancy and, when indicated, ensure the completion of treatment for congenital syphilis. Provide client-centered, trauma-informed care to individuals at risk for or affected by STIs, with a focus on pregnant, postpartum, and reproductive-age clients. Conduct comprehensive sexual and reproductive health assessments, testing, treatment, and education, ensuring care aligns with CDC and jurisdictional guidelines. Monitor and manage STI cases in pregnant individuals to prevent adverse outcomes including congenital infections. Clinicians will interpret laboratory results and clinical data to inform public health interventions and develop appropriate treatment plans, including cases of congenital syphilis. Offer perinatal education, coordinate referrals for prenatal care, and support clients with co-occurring health or social needs.

  Training and Mentorship: Serve as a clinical lead and mentor to new DIS nursing staff, hands-on training, and performance coaching. Provide ongoing clinical consultation and support quality improvement activities within the STI and maternal health programs.
