Materials Test Engineer (ES2)
About the role
The Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is a primary contractor for NASA since 1989, located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. This position is part of the ESSCA Group support to the NASA EM22 Materials Test, Chemistry & Contamination Control Branch.
Responsibilities
- Performs work under the guidance of a senior engineer/scientist.
- Develops test plans, test methods and schedules.
- Designs test specimens, and fixtures.
- Operates electromechanical and servo-hydraulic test machines to perform mechanical materials tests according to ASTM and NASA standards.
- Analyzes materials test data.
- Generates material test data reports.
Requirements
- A minimum of a BS degree from an ABET accredited institution in Materials, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 1-5 years of experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Candidates should have experience operating in a mechanical materials test lab.
- Experience with Solid Edge CAD software.
- Experience with MTS and Instron material test system operation and test method development.
- Well-versed with ASTM standards.

Pay
Compensation details are provided as a good-faith estimate. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
Schedule
The normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job.

- Requires ability to sit for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues.
- Requires ability to sit for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks.
- Requires ability to work in a materials test lab.
- Requires ability to work in an office and laboratory environment.
