Job Description
The Sr. Materials Technician will conduct testing/experiments, write technical reports, support test request workflows, operate equipment, ensure compliance with client quality policies, support lab audits, maintain equipment calibration, and manage lab supplies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing batch mixing, compounding, and extruding of various material types
- Interpreting data to draw conclusions, identify trends, and provide solutions
- Participating in problem-solving and improving test plans
- Overseeing lab supplies stock and reordering, acting as the primary purchase order processor
- Managing chemical inventory and MSDS upkeep, ensuring timely removal of expired chemicals
- Communicating relevant and accurate information to enable effective decision-making
- Submitting final data to requesters and archiving in conjunction with lab technicians
- Executing Continuous Improvement projects in areas such as equipment troubleshooting, method establishment, fixture development, and maintenance
Job Responsibilities

- Oversees lab supplies stock and reordering, acts as primary purchase order processor
- Manages chemical inventory and MSDS upkeep, ensures timely removal of expired chemicals
- Able to find common ground within a team to optimize problem-solving outcomes
- Communicates relevant and accurate information in a timely manner to enable effective decision-making
- Sets up materials lab capability operating procedures
- Captures and maintains lab operations, calibration, and equipment maintenance
- Mentors/supervises junior technicians
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Science or Engineering discipline with a minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience
- Knowledge of the operation of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g., Instron) and two or more materials characterization capabilities (e.g., Coefficient of Friction, FTIR, SEM/EDS, DSC, TGA)
- Experience with polymer compounding (extrusion, batch mixing) and polymer processing (Injection Molding, compression molding, batch mixing) is preferred
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral
- Proficient in MS Office / Word / Excel / PowerPoint
- Knowledge of statistical analysis is desirable
- Superior attention to detail
- Understanding of regulatory and quality requirements and external Regulations (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM)
- Maintains good laboratory practices
