About the role

The Materials Lead position will be based in Libertyville, IL, reporting to the Program Manager. This role is responsible for leading the work of others and participating in shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and delivering a variety of materials, equipment, and supplies. Works with independence in carrying out duties with limited supervision.

Schedule

6:30 AM – 6:30 PM; Rotating Schedule: Tues, Wed, Sat, Sun – Mon, Thurs, Fri

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the activities of subordinates and provides day-to-day leadership for material handling, inventory control, and stockroom operations.
  • Reviews difficult or complex work procedures to resolve questions presented by workers and ensure efficient workflow execution.
  • Ensures accurate, up-to-date inventory records in stockrooms, resin storage areas, and related material management systems; completes required documentation, forms, and transaction records.
  • Maintains and processes inventory transactions utilizing BAAN and other computerized inventory management systems to support accurate material tracking and control.
  • Oversees inventory control activities, including cycle counts, material reconciliation, stock accuracy, and material disposition processes.
  • Designs stockroom and material storage layouts and oversees reorganization efforts to maximize efficiency, material flow, and inventory accuracy.
  • Authorizes special orders within procedural and established limits.
  • Oversees and participates in counting, weighing, and measuring incoming and outgoing materials to verify quantities and identifying information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records.
  • Examines incoming shipments for damage, shortages, or discrepancies and coordinates corrective actions with suppliers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Fills orders and issues materials and supplies based on production and operational requirements; documents transactions, prepares requisitions, computes costs, and maintains inventory records.
  • Oversees and participates in ordering and replenishing stock items, recommending adjustments to inventory levels and material standards as needed.
  • Supports molding operations through effective resin management, including resin handling, storage, distribution, color mixing processes, and material availability.
  • Participates in and supports material disposition activities involving non-conforming, excess, obsolete, or returned materials.
  • Learns and performs basic operational activities within the centralized resin distribution system, including material handling operations associated with the resin room, storage silos, and related equipment.
  • Determines appropriate methods of shipment based on shipping procedures, routes, and costs; packages, weighs, and labels shipments and prepares necessary documentation such as bills of lading.
  • Safely operates forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport raw materials, resin, finished goods, and inventory throughout the facility.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, quality, inventory control, and operational procedures while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilizes computerized, automated, and inventory management systems to accomplish tasks, monitor inventory performance, and support production requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of material experience, including supervision.
  • Warehouse skills: forklift, electronic scales, pallet jack, measuring tools, and alignment tools.
  • Good clerical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, interest, and discounts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and technical instructions.
