Materials Lab Coordinator
About the role
This full-time position is headquartered in Rhinelander, WI. This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the DTSD office in Rhinelander, WI 5 days per week with flexibility to work remotely when duties allow. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin.
Responsibilities
- Provides coordination of material testing for construction and maintenance purposes, as well as assistance with administration of the Quality Management (QMP) and Independent Assurance (IAP) Programs that are federally mandated.
- Performs various complex and technical tests for materials acceptance following American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) or American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) procedures and utilizing specific testing equipment on the physical properties of materials.
- Compares test results to the Standard Specifications and Quality Management Program (QMP) requirements.
- Serves as the primary contact person for the region laboratory daily activities and assists with determining job assignments of consultants.
- Ensures the region materials laboratory remains qualified by maintaining, calibrating, and keeping a current inventory of testing equipment in good working order.
- Performs and documents independent assurance testing and reviews.
- Aids in the completion of interim and final reviews of material records including processing the Final Test Report for construction projects.
- May also perform nuclear density testing in the field.
Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable WisDOT and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) rules, laws, statutes, procedures, and policies.
- Understanding of the regional construction programs, contract plans, estimates and specifications processes and procedures.
Qualifications
- Senior level: Currently hold at least two of the following testing certifications through the Highway Technician Certification Program (HTCP): CST (Concrete Strength Testing), AGGTEC-1 (Aggregate Technician 1), HMA-IPT (Asphalt Technician 1), PCCTEC-1 (Portland Cement Concrete Technician 1).
- Advanced level: Hold all four certifications listed above.

Pay
- Senior level: Annual salary range of $64,480-$76,960, plus excellent benefits.
- Advanced level: Annual salary range of $68,640-$93,600, plus excellent benefits.
Schedule
This position requires a hybridized work schedule with 5 days per week in the office and flexibility to work remotely when duties allow.
