Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of munitions Materials Handler duties involving the receipt, storage, issue, and shipping of ammunition, ammunition components, powders, explosives (including chemical), residue brass, excess, and unserviceable stock.
  • Issue munitions according to requisitions, ensuring first selection of older and smaller lots of stocks.
  • Direct loading and unloading of trucks, keeping requisitions separate for convenience and safety and assuring compatibility.
  • Store munitions in accordance with plans and graphs to conform to quantity distance, compatibility tables, and safety regulations.
  • Check for obvious damage to items to initiate corrective action pertaining to discrepancies.
  • Operate 1/2-to-5-ton vehicles to and from work sites to haul munitions to and from rail sidings, airports, ranges, and storage sites.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure physical health and ability to perform duties.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Motor Vehicle operator license.
  • May require temporary duty (TDY) travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968; persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible.
  • Covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program; must pass urinalysis periodically.
  • Must lift up to 70 lbs. regularly and occasionally handle items over 70 lbs. with assistance.
  • Requires shift work, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Must work both planned and unscheduled overtime on an on-call status.
  • Screening and evaluation using DA Form 7708, PERSONNEL RELIABILITY SCREENING AND EVALUATION, required.
  • May be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
  • Must pass and maintain forklift certification and driving test.
  • Appointment subject to a one-year probationary period unless previously met.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months, with potential extensions.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element)

Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. Must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Perform common Materials Handler duties.
  • Store supplies and equipment in accordance with guidance.
  • Inspect shipping documents for discrepancies.

Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts

  • Perform work on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds and occasionally handle items over 70 pounds with assistance.

Working Conditions

  • Works continuously in, out, and between magazines in all kinds of weather; magazines are unheated.
  • Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, etc.
