MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER (FORKLIFT OPERATOR)

Duties

• Helps perform a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, processing, storing, and shipping a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities.
• Performs unloading, stacking, binding, rotating, inspecting, processing and marking stock in accordance with standard warehouse procedures.
• Receives, unloads, screens, inspects and processes incoming shipments, reporting overages, shortages or damaged conditions.
• Performs inspection of a wide variety of complex categories of material and equipment, including electronic and aircraft components and parts, marine products, industrial production equipment, and other major end items and/or components.

Requirements

• Conditions of employment: Must be a U.S. citizen. Tour of Duty: Set Schedule. Security Requirements: Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret Access. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license/certification to operate government vehicles. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid MHE license.
• Experience: Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations, is considered qualifying experience.
• Physical Effort: Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Bends, stoops, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 40 pounds. Works in a warehouse environment and outside containment areas on a year-round basis. Work is usually performed in areas that are hot, cold, or damp. Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes and are subject to hazards involved in working around moving equipment, i.e., fork lifts, trucks, cranes and conveyors. When working with preservatives, may be exposed to noxious fumes, skin irritants, and flammable chemicals. If working with hazardous materials, must wear protective clothing, respirators or other specialized devices. in addition to basic protective equipment (hard hats, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, etc.). Subject to shift rotation with odd/irregular tours of duty.
