Overview of the Role
Our global consumer products client is seeking a Materials Developer to support seasonal apparel product creation initiatives within a global consumer brand environment. This role focuses on the technical execution of materials development, partnering with design and product creation teams to bring material concepts from brief through testing, validation, and production readiness.
Basics
- Duraton: Through October 2026
- Hourofwork: 40 hours per week
- Location: Hybrid, based in Beaverton, OR
- Onsite Requirements: 4 days onsite per week, remote on Fridays
Top 3 Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in materials development, textile development, or a related product creation function
- Strong technical knowledge of textile manufacturing processes including yarns, knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques
- Experience managing material validation, testing, and production readiness activities within a product creation environment
Other Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
- Familiarity with product creation and commercialization processes
- Experience working within apparel, footwear, or consumer product manufacturing industries
- Experience partnering cross-functionally with designers, technical developers, product managers, and sourcing teams
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple seasonal development timelines simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using PCX, Smartsheet, and Miro preferred
- Experience working for a Fortune 500 retail or consumer products company is a plus
Key Responsibilities
- Materials Development & Execution:
- Manage the technical development of materials from initial design brief through validation and production readiness
- Review design intent and translate concepts into manufacturable material solutions
- Coordinate material testing, validation, and performance assessments
- Ensure developed materials meet quality, performance, cost, and timeline expectations
- Technical Material Expertise:
- Apply knowledge of yarns, textiles, knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques throughout the development process
- Evaluate material construction, performance, and feasibility for production
- Identify technical challenges and recommend solutions that support business and product goals
- Product Creation Collaboration:
- Partner closely with designers, technical developers, product managers, and sourcing partners throughout seasonal development cycles
- Support cross-functional decision-making related to materials, manufacturing, and commercialization
- Ensure alignment between design intent and technical execution
- Project Management & Systems:
- Maintain accurate development information, timelines, and project documentation
- Manage material development workflows and key deliverables across multiple seasons
- Utilize PCX, Smartsheet, Miro, and related tools to support visibility and communication across teams
- Track milestones and proactively communicate risks, issues, or potential delays
