The Materials Designer typically selects and develops the textiles, wovens, knits and synthetics that define how Nike products perform and feel.

Responsibilities

  • Sources, evaluates and develops materials for footwear and apparel across seasonal product lines.
  • Collaborates with color designers, product designers and PLMs on material direction and application.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with material suppliers and mills globally.
  • Presents material concepts and selections to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Manages color accuracy and material specifications from concept through to production.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in materials design within footwear, apparel or accessories.
  • Deep knowledge of wovens, knits and synthetic materials
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for material presentation and documentation.
  • Portfolio demonstrating materials development work
  • Experience working directly with suppliers or mills on material development and sample evaluation.
  • Strong color accuracy skills and understanding of how environmental and lighting conditions impact material appearance.
  • Knowledge of sustainable material certifications or eco-friendly textile alternatives is a plus.

Pay

Salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 annually.
