About the role

ST Engineering MRAS is seeking a Materials & Process (M&P) Manager to lead a team of engineers who support both production composite/materials engineering and R&D / demonstrator development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Materials & Process Engineers supporting both production programs and R&D / demonstrator development.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and coach new engineers, fostering technical growth and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Prioritize workload across production support, qualification/approval tasks, R&D projects, and demonstrator milestones.
  • Develop clear objectives and maintain accountability for team performance, ensuring on-time delivery of engineering outputs and issue resolution.
  • Oversee material and process engineering support for active production, including composite materials, adhesives, coatings, and metallic processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards.
  • Provide direction on material approvals, deviations, MRB dispositions, and corrective actions.
  • Drive process improvements to increase robustness, reduce variability, and support cost-out initiatives.
  • Guide new material development projects, including testing, prototyping, and early application of advanced composite systems.
  • Oversee specification development and rollout for new materials or processes, coordinating across engineering, quality, production, and suppliers.
  • Direct development of composite prototype parts to support demonstrator builds and advanced material use cases.
  • Support strategy creation for application of advanced materials and manufacturing technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality, Production, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, and external research partners.
  • Ensure alignment between R&D efforts and production needs, including qualification pathways and manufacturing readiness.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging materials, process technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks associated with new materials, process changes, and production disruptions.
  • Oversee testing plans for new composite materials, process capability, and supplier qualification.
  • Ensure robust documentation, traceability, and configuration control of material and process specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in materials engineering, composite engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with composite material systems, testing (physical, chemical, mechanical), and manufacturing processes.
  • Prior leadership experience strongly preferred, including mentoring or managing engineering staff.
  • Strong analytical skill set and familiarity with specification development and material qualification.
  • Ability to integrate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain functions.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to present technical content to stakeholders.
  • Hightly organized with strong sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Qualifications

  • This position involves access to export-controlled technology which requires U.S. Person status or government authorization.
  • Desired Characteristics: Background in composite material development, prototyping, and test environments; experience in production support for composite or metallic materials and processes; strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in time-constrained environments; creative, adaptable, and proactive with a passion for advancing material technologies; effective communicator across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams; ability to work independently in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment; demonstrated ability to lead teams of 5–10 engineers; willingness to travel as required.

ST Engineering MRAS considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location.
