Responsibilities

Operates lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping dock to storage or work area.

Compares identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items of incoming/outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, work orders, or other records.

Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with responsible buyer to rectify damages and shortages.

Receives material in using the MRP system.

Creates material move tickets from the MRP system.

Routes items to departments and/or storage area per established guidelines.

Determines method of shipment if not noted on pre-printed shipper.

Calls and schedules carriers for pickup.

Maintains shipping logs and shipping records.

Process lost freight or shipping damage claims.

Prints bar-coded labels when required internally or by customer.

Prints required shipping paperwork from MRP systems.

Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons.

Prepares packing list(s), bills of lading, and other shipping documentation as necessary.

Assembles cardboard containers or selects pre-assembled containers.

Inserts items into containers.
