About the role

Performs the physical and administrative tasks required for the processing and receiving of all inventory-related items, including issues, returns, and receiving to support construction activities. Operates vehicles such as truck and trailer combinations, pickups, cars, general line equipment, and forklifts. Operates and rigs material handling equipment with a capacity of 8,000 pounds or more, not to exceed loads of 30,000 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist personnel in the department to complete daily tasks.
  • Perform work alone within the conformance of training and safe work practices.
  • Take directions and demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures (safety-sensitive position).
  • Document and stock, issue, and return materials to support Material Operations.
  • Perform order picking and stocking of material to support Material Operations activities.
  • Package materials and perform pickups and deliveries as required.
  • Support physical inventory requirements.
  • Perform basic labor and housekeeping tasks to support Material Operations.
  • Physically identify, review, and inspect all incoming material to support the physical receiving function.
  • Load and unload trucks, trailers, railcars, vans, storage racks, and stacks; sort and palletize materials as required.
  • Operate order picking and stocking equipment to support Material Operation activities.
  • Perform specialized tasks such as assembling, kitting, disassembling, and reclaiming of inventory material.
  • Perform necessary documentation to support all Material Operation transactions that impact the General Ledger (receipts, issues, and returns).
  • Maintain awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations.
  • Operate vehicles such as truck and trailer combinations, pickups, cars, general line equipment, and forklifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must pass training and testing required to advance to Sr. Material Specialist classification.
  • Progression to next steps (four- to six-month intervals) is based on demonstrating a satisfactory work record and successfully passing job-related tests at the end of each step.
  • Support and communicate Operational Excellence goals, objectives, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of warehousing experience.
  • Valid, up-to-date driver’s license; ability to obtain/maintain a Class A CDL.
  • Inventory experience related to order picking and stocking equipment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Ability to learn required duties and follow instructions.
  • Ability to perform work in a safe and productive manner with fellow workers and customers.
  • Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, shift work, and in inclement weather.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write legibly, and distinguish color codes.
  • Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment and multitask.
  • Physically able to bend, stoop, climb, and lift for extended periods of time; comfortable working at heights.
  • Experience with material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks (powered and manual), material pickers, and delivery trucks is preferred.

Skills

  • Basic math skills.
  • Knowledge of basic safety procedures and inventory management.
  • Forklift operation and safety requirements.
  • Ability to lift, stack, climb, and verify pack slips.
  • Knowledge of Materials Work Management Systems (Purchasing & Inventory).
  • Experience operating vehicles such as electric carts, forklifts, and truck/trailer combinations (preferred).
  • Ability to use tools and equipment associated with the work area.
  • Understanding and compliance with all TEP safety rules and regulations.
  • Work harmoniously with fellow workers and customers.
  • Work under minimum supervision; must be trained and certified to perform work alone.

Testing Process

There will be a three-part testing procedure for this position:

  • Written Exam: Covers basic math, basic safety procedures, inventory management, and forklift operation/safety requirements.
  • Practical Assessment: Evaluates skills in lifting, stacking, climbing, and pack slip verification.
  • Behavioral-Based Interview: Focuses on past behavior as a predictor of future performance. Candidates should prepare brief scenarios illustrating problem-solving, results, and handling of unexpected outcomes.

Each step must be passed to progress to the next. Candidates selected for testing will receive a confirmation email with the scheduled date and time.

Schedule

  • Shift work is required.
  • Overtime work is required, including holidays, weekends, and in inclement weather.
