Material Specialist
Opportunity Summary
The Materials Specialist supports the safe and efficient operation of Chalk Point Generating Station by managing warehouse activities, inventory control, and material distribution. This role is responsible for receiving, storing, issuing, and tracking materials while maintaining accurate records through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and other business systems. Working closely with plant personnel, the Materials Specialist helps ensure materials are readily available to support reliable operations and maintenance activities while maintaining compliance with company policies and safety standards.
Scope of Responsibility
- Receive, inspect, label, store, and issue materials, tools, and equipment while maintaining accurate documentation and inventory records.
- Perform inventory control activities, including cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliation to ensure accurate stock levels and material availability.
- Process material transactions within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and other business systems to maintain accurate inventory and work order records.
- Cook up the distribution of materials and equipment to maintenance and operations personnel, ensuring timely availability to support plant activities.
- Operate forklifts, Lulls, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently to transport, load, unload, and store materials throughout the facility.
- Organize and maintain warehouse storage areas to promote efficient material retrieval, proper housekeeping, and compliance with safety and storage requirements.
- Support the collection, segregation, documentation, and disposition of salvageable materials in accordance with company procedures and environmental requirements.
- Monitor designated non-hazardous satellite storage areas to ensure materials are properly stored, identified, and managed in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Complete required Chain of Custody documentation and maintain accurate records for controlled materials, equipment, and related inventory transactions.
- Follow established safety practices, company policies, and environmental requirements while performing materials management duties and assisting with additional assignments as needed.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned in support of station operations and organizational objectives.

Working Relationships
The Materials Specialist reports directly to the Accounting Manager and works under the general direction of plant management. This role works closely with operations and maintenance personnel to support efficient warehouse operations, inventory control, and material availability for plant maintenance and operations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Climbing stairs and ladders.
- Working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights.
- Routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials.
- Exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise.
- Varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection.
- Fitness for Duty: All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The Material Specialist works a standard Monday to Friday day-shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status will also be required.
Compensation
This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $20.94 to $48.63 per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
Qualifications and Skills
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- An Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant industry or military experience may be considered.
- Preferred experience in materials management, warehouse operations, inventory control, or supply chain functions within a power generation, industrial, manufacturing, or similarly regulated environment.
- Proficiency using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), ERP systems, or other inventory management software to process material transactions and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Experience receiving, storing, issuing, handling, and tracking materials while maintaining inventory accuracy through routine cycle counts and physical inventories.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, Lulls, and other material handling equipment, or the ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical procedures, specifications, drawings, and work instructions while maintaining accurate documentation and inventory records.
- Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments, collaborate across departments, and maintain attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of warehouse safety practices, inventory control procedures, and applicable environmental regulations.
- DOT and RCRA training, or the ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, is preferred.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
